3D Mid-Air Acoustic Manipulation

Video of the Month

We harp on about visualization quite a lot and that’s because we love it!

And more often than not it relates to data visualization. But this month we’ve stumbled across a different type of visualization which seems to have the power to defer gravity.

It’s the visualization of acoustic sound waves and it is stunning, not to mention rather mind-blowing. Like a kind of levitation we see objects suspended in the air and manipulated into different shapes and patterns by standing sound waves. Oh and the dry ice bit… !! Just wait and see for yourself.

Video by Yoichi Ochiai,  Takayuki Hoshi and Jun Rekimoto and can be found on YouTube here.
